Building the future together – expansion vision becomes a reality at The Coleshill School

The latest phase of an ambitious new £3.4million expansion project is taking shape at The Coleshill School following the arrival of its new teaching block.

An assembly of a different kind started during half-term when The Wilson Building – named after former headteacher Tom Wilson and pre constructed at Ashby and Croft’s Nuneaton factory – was delivered to the school, along with 38 units.

The new building and facilities are part of a joint initiative with  Warwickshire Council to “future proof” the popular secondary school, which will provide high quality education to more than 1300 additional students in coming years.

Headteacher Ian Smith-Childs said:

Students and staff returned from half term last week to see the full building in place.  I am sure everybody is as excited as I am to see the project now becoming a reality, especially Year 11 and Sixth Form students who will have use of the new dining room.  When complete, The Wilson Building will symbolise the next stage in Coleshill’s journey and represents significant investment of £3.4 million from Warwickshire County Council as our school community continues to grow. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Warwickshire County Council, Ashby and Croft and all those staff who have been involved with the project so far, superbly led by Claire Cheswick, Operation and Estates Manager.  I would also like to thank the local community for their support and patience at this time.”

The expansion of the school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), is to accommodate growing student numbers over future years (with an increasing proportion of students coming from Warwickshire primary schools) as well as improving arrangements for examinations and study through the use of extended classroom spaces.

The provisional plans include: 12 classrooms including some with retractable walls which will provide space for examinations or double classrooms, additional dining room space, a piazza style landscaped area and additional car parking.

At this stage it is anticipated that building will be opening in the summer term.
