Kind-hearted students, staff and parents from Arthur Terry School have raised more than two thousand pounds through charity donations towards the Australia Bush Fires funds.

Arthur Terry students map out their donations, which are bound for Australia.

The outstanding school held a non-uniform charity event on 23 January to raise money towards the New South Wales fires which started in September 2019 during Australia’s bushfire season and continue to burn in 2020.

Arthur Terry School has raised more than £2,000. Students used some of the donations to create this map of Australia.

Arthur Terry’s contribution will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) which has pledged protection and care for injured animals, both short term and long term. The other chosen charity is the Red Cross, which has deployed disaster relief and recovery teams across Australia that have aided in the physical and emotional needs of victims of the fire.

Sophie Varnish, a sixth form student leader, said:

Our events committee wanted to act and put together this fundraiser to help those in urgent need. We were inspired by the many students wanting to help and donate, but didn’t know how to access the websites needed to send funds to. With the help of school leadership, the charity day gave the students the opportunity to do just that and, consequently, our Arthur Terry community showed amazing generosity raising an incredible two thousand pounds.”

Headteacher Samantha Kibble said:

We are absolutely delighted to have raised more than two thousand pounds for the two worthy causes. I would like to thank all of our students, staff, parents and carers for supporting the non-uniform day and for their generous donations.”
