Nether Stowe celebrates fantastic A Level results
13 August 2020

Following an unprecedented and challenging year for all schools, Nether Stowe School, part of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), is thoroughly proud to be celebrating an outstanding set of A Level results. The school has seen a significant increase in the percentage of entries graded at A and A*, up to 15% whilst almost 50% of all grades are A*, A or B, representing great attainment and great progress for pupils and an in-school increase from last year far above the national increase at those grades.
Headteacher, Glyn Langston-Jones stated that, ‘within a background of negative stories about this year’s results and unprecedented pressures placed on students, it is vital to remember that these achievements represent individual stories of determination, hard work, perseverance and success to be celebrated and shared’.
Neil Warner Director of Education (Secondary) for the ATLP said ‘Whilst this year is truly unprecedented in our education system, one overriding feature remains. These results represent the culmination of great dedication, hard work and perseverance from our young people and we congratulate every single one of our students’.
Acting Head of Sixth Form, Kelly Manton, stated, ‘we are so proud of the hard work of our students and the results they have achieved in spite of the most challenging circumstances imaginable. These grades represent a massive amount of effort and commitment. The Sixth Form at Nether Stowe is growing rapidly. These results will help inspire our Year 12 students and we are looking forward to moving into our brand-new accommodation and resource centre for Sixth Form students in September’.
Dan Perry, who achieved three A grades in Further Maths, Maths and Physics and is going to Birmingham University to study Computer Science said that he was, ‘so happy with these results especially in such difficult times.
Head student, Eleanor Alcock who is going to Bristol to study Physics with Astrophysics added, ‘I’m thankful and relieved to have gained my place at my first choice of university and I am very grateful for all of the support from the teachers during these uncertain times’. Furthermore, Maddy Langston, who is going to Keele to study Law and Criminology, passed on her thanks to, ‘all of teachers who helped and supported me’.
Igor Spaeder was exceptionally pleased to receive the grades he need to study Aerospace Engineering at Bristol and wanted to say, ‘thank you for helping me to get the grades,’ whilst Ellie Thompson, who is going to study Psychology at Aston University expressed her thanks for the, ‘amazing help and support throughout my A Levels’ and said that she was, ‘so pleased’ to be accepted at her first choice university.
Headteacher, Glyn Langston-Jones, added ‘Before the onset of the Covid lockdown, we had exceptionally high hopes for this year’s cohorts and were very confident that we on track for some of the best results we have ever seen. After such turmoil, we are relieved and immensely proud that years of hard work have been rightly recognised in such a set of excellent results for our students. It really is a testament to their hard work and the amazing support provided by our staff. Nether Stowe is a really very special place to be and one of the main strengths of our Sixth Form is our size and the outstanding individual support we provide to each student, something that is even more important in the current context. After such uncertainty, it’s fantastic to see students going off to some of the country’s most prestigious universities and entering the next exciting phase in their lives. We wish all of our students the very best of luck and continued success for the future’.
