Three partner Tamworth primary schools are celebrating the return of pupils to the classroom this week following a period of remote learning.

Coton Green, Two Gates and William MacGregor schools, all part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), welcomed children back to school on Monday as pupils reunited with friends and school staff.

The schools, which have been teaching pupils both on site and remotely during lockdown, are enjoying a successful week and are “immensely proud” of how the young learners are settling into school life.

All three schools are focused on making sure children are relaxed, happy, and having plenty of fun. The headteachers have expressed their sincere thanks to pupils, families and school staff for their support, dedication and positivity.

William MacGregor headteacher Suzie Norton said: “It was like the very first day of the school year on Monday, with children, parents and staff very excited to all be back.

“We are so proud of how all the children returned – eager to see their friends and teachers and to get back to the enjoyment of learning. Science Week has been timed to perfection with the children engrossed in all Science related learning.

“Their well-being is also a priority and we are thrilled that our children feel safe and happy in all aspects of their lives. I am also very thankful to our parents who have supported us in time keeping and ensuring that everyone is safe, with wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.”

At Two Gates Primary School, pupils have enjoyed celebrating being back at school with a range of lessons and activities as part of British Science Week 2021.

Headteacher Nêst Llewelyn-Cook said: “This is a perfect week for the children to return to school as we focus on Science and well- being. Year 6 have been learning about the heart in a fun relay drawing race and also creating ‘blood smoothies’ –yuck!

“Nursery pupils have received a special delivery of five tiny caterpillars which they will nurture and observe over the coming weeks…awe and wonder in abundance.

Year 2 have made their very own worry monsters after reading the book ‘The Making of Milton’. They read your worries and munch them up, so you don’t have to worry about them anymore.

It’s so lovely to hear the sound of children’s chatter and laughter around every corner again.”

Coton Green welcomed 311 pupils into school on Monday and activities included violin lessons and ‘bubble’ play.

Headteacher Richard Osborne said: “We are so pleased to welcome all our pupils back into school. It has been so good to see Coton Green full of children and smiles on so many faces.

“The attendance figure for our first day back was outstanding and the systems put in place for social distancing, such as our staggered drop off and pick up, worked so well because of the co-operation of parents and carers.

“Monday morning is our normal time for class tuition of violin, and we were so pleased we were able to offer this on our first day back – an example of helping pupils settle back into a familiar routine quickly!

“Our plan now is to not compromise and give the children the broad and balanced curriculum that they deserve, with health and well-being, music, humanities and arts valued alongside our core focus on the basic skills of English and Mathematics.”
