Students at Stockland Green School learned about being global citizens, in a Wellbeing Week that also focused on sustainability and how they can make a difference in their own community.

The school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, holds three Wellbeing Weeks each year, giving staff and students the opportunity to explore a wider curriculum and extra pastoral topics.

The week, which started on Monday December 4th, focused on global citizenship and the UN’s sustainability goals, and encouraged students to think about their place in the world.

Students had lessons on sustainability, took part in activities and wrote campaigning letters to their Member of Parliament on topics close to their heart.

An innovative pen pal system is also being set up, so students can exchange letters with children in less well-off parts of the world.

Assistant headteacher Katerina Lee said:

This Wellbeing Week was really about raising the students’ aspirations and encouraging them to see how they can make a difference, in the local community and in the world in general.

“It was also an opportunity to celebrate diversity in our own community and get them to think about what it is to be good citizens, who make a real difference.”
