‘Uplifting’ event celebrates culture and diversity at West Coventry Academy
17 October 2024
An abundance of music, dance, fashion, and food from across the world filled West Coventry Academy last week when staff and students came together for the school’s first ‘Cultural Day’.
From Japanese calligraphy, flag crafts and Rangoli inspired art, the event was organised by students, keen to immerse themselves in new cultures and celebrate the school’s rich diversity.
Children took part in a range of fun, educational activities, showcasing their talents and creativity through vibrant dance and fashion shows. They also enjoyed the flavours of global cuisine as the school canteen served-up an array of tasty treats.
Dressed in cultural clothing of colours and flags that celebrated their own history, students learned about the different cultures and traditions of friends and people from the wider school community.
Headteacher Ana Neofitou said: “What a fantastic way to celebrate the multicultural and diverse nature of West Coventry academy. The atmosphere in school was so uplifting!
“Diversity is our biggest strength at West Coventry Academy and students and staff were so very proud to share what is important to them and their heritage, enjoyed through music, dance and other activities.
“Thank you to all our staff and students who made West Coventry Academy’s first ever ‘Cultural Day’ a truly memorable event!”
