American Football champ, Team GB’s Jack Redhead, took time out last week to touchdown at his former school, West Coventry Academy.

Excited students were delighted to be ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with Jack when he visited the school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, to speak to them about his rising career.

Jack, who hails from Coventry, kicked off his visit by speaking to students about his sporting and academic success.

The linebacker, who initially favoured rugby as his sport, began playing American Football in 2021, joining local club Tamworth Phoenix. Now, he represents the Great Britain American Football squad,  and is a leading light in his field.

Jack left West Coventry Academy after Year 11 to complete sports-based course at college. He has just completed his foundation year at the University of Nottingham and is hoping to get onto a sports rehabilitation course next year.

The sportsman visited school to inspire other students with his story and to pay special thanks to Mrs Claire Jones, a Science teacher and mentor, who supported him throughout his school days. Jack also presented the shirt he wore when he represented Great Britain.

West Coventry Academy Headteacher, Ana Neofitu said:

“We were thrilled and proud to welcome Jack back into school. The children were excited to meet a real-life sporting talent and to hear about his incredible journey to success.

“Jack is enjoying a remarkable career, and his amazing achievements are due to his tenacity and resilience. I know our students were inspired by his talk and I’m sure this will motivate them to be ambitious in their own future careers.”
