West Coventry Academy welcomes record visitor numbers to open day events

Families flocked to West Coventry Academy to take part in several open day events aimed at prospective Year 7 students – and school leaders have been “overjoyed” at the positive community feedback.

The school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), attracted a bumper number of visitors to its Saturday open day and visits to Year 7 lessons this week.

Current Year 6 primary school pupils who will enter Year 7 in September 2023, visited the school, along with their families, to experience all West Coventry Academy has to offer.

Visitors enjoyed tours of the school, which is undergoing an ambitious £38.4 million complete rebuild with a brand new state of the art sports hall, which will also serve the local community.

They also listened to headteacher presentations, met with staff and students and shared refreshments with senior leaders, before praising the ‘friendly and welcoming’ reception. Children were also encouraged to try their hand at some of the fun, educational practical activities; Whizz Bang Experiments, WCA Clock Makers, The Wonder of Words and Take to the Stage.

Headteacher Ana Neofitou said: “We’re delighted at the record turnout for this year‘s open days. It was a pleasure to welcome our community through our doors, so that they could find out more about all that our fantastic school has to offer.

“It was wonderful to welcome so many future students and their families, and there was a real buzz around school. They met our current year 7s, who are settling in brilliantly, and who have already enjoyed an orchestral instrument immersion day and signed up to an exciting Boundless Outdoors trip to the Malvern Hills. We have lots of exciting events and activities planned for the year ahead!

“At West Coventry Academy, we believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and giving them a wide ranging educational and extra-curricular experience. This includes high quality teaching and learning, strong pastoral care, enrichment opportunities and first class facilities. It’s exciting to think that these new students will be joining us in time for the opening of our brand new school.”
