Building continues on new Tamworth primary school
23 October 2023
Construction work is continuing on a brand-new £8m Tamworth primary school which will be managed by the thriving Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP).
Work on Dunstall Park Primary School began in September and will continue until August 2024, with the school ready to open in September 2024.
The school is being built on the new Dunstall Park estate to accommodate new housing developments in the area.
The two-storey school will be one-form entry and cater for 210 children plus a nursery. The school will also have the capacity to be expanded to 315 places in the future, in line with demand from further housing growth in the area.
Within its first year, it will offer places within its nursery and reception years. Dunstall Park Primary will then grow annually before reaching its full capacity.
The project is being delivered by G F Tomlinson, alongside architect and project manager Entrust, for Staffordshire County Council.
Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education Jonathan Price said: “As towns grow and more housing is developed, it is important that we plan ahead and ensure there are enough school places to meet current and future demand. We have a good track record of delivering new schools when they are needed, meaning we can consistently offer the majority of parents their first-choice school.
“This school has been planned for a number of years and it is good to see construction developing on site. I am excited to see the school take shape over the coming months.
“This new school will serve the children of the new Dunstall Park housing estate and the surrounding area, providing them with a brand-new, state-of-the-art primary school and nursery in which to start their education.”
The school will be run by the ATLP, which operates ten other successful schools in Staffordshire among its new overall total of 22.
CEO of the ATLP, Richard Gill CBE, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded the new school in Tamworth, where the ATLP has built a reputation for delivering excellence in education and creating opportunities for our young people.
“Dunstall Park Primary will benefit from a talented and passionate teaching and support staff who all have children at heart of everything we do.”
ATLP Primary Strategic Lead Suzie Norton said: “The ATLP will help raise the aspirations of children in and around Tamworth by utilising the resources on the new school’s doorstep and installing a big focus on careers.
“I have spent my entire education career working in Tamworth since 1995 and am looking forward to using my experience to drive Dunstall Park Primary School forward.”
An open evening for the new school will be held at Tamworth Assembly Rooms on Thursday, October 26 at 6.15pm. Parking at Aldergate car park opposite is free from 6pm.
