Our song – Scotch Orchard pupils orchestrate memorable parting gift for school

Musical year 6 pupils at Lichfield’s Scotch Orchard Primary School surprised their teachers, parents and classmates last week with the ‘gift’ of a brand new school song celebrating the academy’s core values: caring, believing and achieving.
The track, entitled ‘We Believe’, was written and recorded in secret during just four hours of music lessons to celebrate their journey through school with the brief to ‘make their teachers cry’ yet leave them feeling uplifted.
Every CD features individual artwork designed by the children, printed courtesy of Print and Design Lichfield, and was premiered at the school’s summer concert in front of a shocked audience of family and friends.
With the support of professional musical director and composer, Dave Culling and recorded by local musician, Mark Gallagher, the track is now on sale with all proceeds going towards Scotch Orchard’s PTA.
Scotch Orchard’s headteacher, Jo Bishop, said:
It was such an amazing moment, hearing the results of their hard work and watching their joy as they sang alongside their friends about the values they hold so dear and which are so important to our school. Children are at the heart of everything we do at Scotch Orchard and hearing their lyrics embody the core values that we strive for every day was truly humbling, the very ethos of our school captured forever. We will be singing ‘We believe’ for many years to come!”
Year 6 pupil, Jack Ashley, said:
We wanted to write a song about our school values to show that our logo isn’t there just to look at on a badge but there for a real reason, because we are all caring, believing and achieving. It was hard to keep the secret from our teachers but it was worth it!”
