OSBORNE STUDENTS CUT RIBBON TO OPEN NEW LIDL STORE
1 March 2023
Youngsters from Osborne Primary School got the VIP treatment when they helped unveil a brand new supermarket in their neighbourhood.
On Thursday, February 16th youngsters from the school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, were up bright and early to play their part in opening the new Lidl store in Sutton Road.
And two lucky pupils from the school, in Osborne Rd, Erdington, Birmingham, even got to cut the ribbon and declare the store open for business.
The children arrived at 7.45am, to find shoppers were already queuing to grab the first bargains on the shelves.
Deputy headteacher Clare Harris said:
“The children were all very excited to be invited to take part in the grand opening of the new Lidl store, which is just up the road from the school.
“When they arrived they were greeted and given a gift bag and a piece of fruit, and were then given a VIP tour of the new store – which looked completely immaculate.
“They were even shown the large freezer in the warehouse which was incredibly cold.”
Then, Osborne Head boy, Temmy Lawal and Head girl, Silver Shaw stepped forward to cut the ribbon and officially open the store, before allowing the public in.
Mrs Harris said: “The public were very excited to get their hands on the bargains and fresh produce. We saw lots of people exiting the store with enormous TVs!
“We went in to make our first purchase of breakfast items, so we could head back to school and enjoy some pastries to start our day.”
The new Lidl store in Erdington is said to have created around 40 jobs and will have the “new starters be amongst the highest paid in the supermarket sector”. Lidl Erdington on Sutton Road will be open from 8am to 10pm Monday – Thursday and 10am – 4pm on Sundays.
